Objective(s): |
The aims of the seminar were:
- awareness raising for judges about the ECHR and a case law of the European Court on freedom of expression and information;
- discussion of accession of journalists to the court;
- discussion of principle of the presumption of innocence;
- discussion of protection of judges’ reputation.
- assistance for dialogue between courts and journalists in Zaporizhia region

Output/Results: |
- Participants, judges of Zaporizhia region in Ukraine, were familiarized with the standards of the ECHR and case law of the ECHR on freedom of expression and information. They acquired practical skills for applying these standards in their daily work.
- Participants in the seminar have received the methodical materials: Ukrainian law, Recommendations of the Committee of Ministries of Council of Europe, case law of European Court on freedom of expression and information and examples of the practical accession of journalists to the court;
- Participants in the seminar have discussed the questions of protection of judges’ reputation and principle
of the presumption of innocence. Participants have taken part in case study prepared by Ukrainian expert.

Conclusions/Follow Up: |
Participants in the seminar have supported the idea of the introduction of press secretaries in the courts, informing journalists on judicial proceedings, providing of accession of journalists to the court. The follow-up activities must be directed towards the organisation of training for press secretaries of courts, carrying out of joint meetings for judges and journalists. |
