Activity Synopsis

Objective(s):

To participate as an observer in the 25th meeting of the Contact Committee on the TVWF Directive. In view of the revision of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television (ETS 132) it is particularly important to be informed on the preparation of the implementation of the Audiovisual media services Directive and related issues.

Output/Results:

The Contact Committee exchanged examples of good practice concerning cooperation between regulatory authorities in Sweden and UK to deal with complaints of viewers. Information was provided on the expected date of adoption of the new AVMS Directive (28 November) to enter into force as from 1 January 2008 with a period of two years for MS to implement the Directive. Discussions were held on issues of particular concern for the implementation as well as on the follow-up by the European commission to article 3a of the TVWF Directive concerning events of major importance to the society.

Conclusions/Follow Up:

In 2008, the European Commission will organise additional meetings of the Contact Committee to assist EU member states in the implementation of the AVMS Directive.
