Activity Synopsis

Objective(s):

The workshop aimed at providing a group of targeted professional journalists (with or without a first experience as trainers) and journalism trainers with the relevant skills and tools to act as trainers in their own country.

General and specific objectives
How to generate journalistic ideas and to develop them; how to find new journalistic angles and communicate those during training sessions; how to assess the training needs and to secure the most effective schemes accordingly; how to coach for an idea and for reporting, as opposed to edit the result; how to actually plan a workshop for reporters, to set an agenda, were among the topics discussed, on the basis of short lectures and working groups.

Output/Results:

The overall organisation and implementation of the workshop went smoothly. Numerous documents were translated and handed out to the participants during the activity. That material can be used by the participants, when setting and carrying training workshops in the future.

All topics above mentioned have been discussed and debated among the participants and with the trainer intensively, both during presentations and working sessions in small groups.

The participants took part actively in the discussions and working groups and have benefited from the workshop. The group of journalists was homogeneous and eager to learn and work together.

Conclusions/Follow Up:

Organising a follow-up workshop involving the same group of participants would allow those (future) trainers to learn further skills and to raise specific questions they might have after having eventually acted as trainers.
