Objective(s): |
The aim of the seminar was:
1. to discuss Ukrainian problems related to corruption in media, one of the most important problems in the media sphere in Ukraine, with a strong impact during the last election campaign;
2. to present the overview of the Polish experience with regard to the surmounting of corruption in media;
3. to discuss to what extent the Polish experience could be useful for the Ukrainian media;
4. to discuss the negative impact of corruption in media to the civil society;
5. to discuss the importance of the self-awareness of journalists themselves in the process of the surmounting problems;
6. to discuss to what extent the European structures could assist Ukrainian journalists (also on a regional level).

Output/Results: |
- The seminar permitted the importance of corruption in media in the Ukraine to be seen which could help in the building of some assistance programs by the CoE and European Commission;
- The seminar helped the Ukrainian side to understand the importance of self-awareness of journalists themselves in the process of the surmounting the corruption and the importance of the common reaction against corruption;
- The Polish experience presented by journalists coming from the most prestigious media in Poland and also understanding the Ukrainian context such as Gazeta Wyborcza, TVN-24 (information channel) and Tygodnik Powszechny which held a fruitful discussion about mechanisms of the surmounting problems of corruption and its importance for the society.

Conclusions/Follow Up: |
Corruption of journalists seems to be one of the major problems in media sphere in Ukraine. In preparing the new Action Plans for Ukraine it would be important to propose some assistance to Ukrainian journalists (including the regional media) and some assistance in the surmounting the problems. |
