Activity Synopsis |

Objective(s): |
The aims of the round table were to:
1/ present the general overview of the current state of the development of the creation of the public broadcasting in Ukraine: civic initiatives and government efforts from 2005 and present the different ways of implementing it in Ukraine
2/ present and discuss the Polish example of the transition from State to Public broadcasting: legal aspects of transition to Public Broadcasting, practice of public broadcasting implementation (stressed at regional level).
3/ discuss with the regional representatives from media some specific aspects related to the public broadcasting such as: mechanisms of funding, possible changes in TV and radio companies personnel under the period of transition to public broadcasting: reduction of the staff, retraining etc., structure of public media management.
4/ assist the working group on the creation of Public Television in Ukraine.
5/ present and discuss the issue of the coverage of the election campaigns by public media: Polish experience, issue proposed in regard to the Parliamentary elections planned in Ukraine for 30 September.

Output/Results: |
- Debates: the meeting was attended by a large representation of the regional Media which was important taking account the creation of the Public Media and that the transition from State to Public media is not well understood in Ukraine, including the regional level. Promotion and good understanding of the issue - presentation of two Polish experts was lively and provoked an interesting discussion |
Conclusions/Follow Up: |
The follow-up should be related to the activity of the Ukrainian side on these matters, first of all to assist the working group on the creation of the public television. |
