Activity Synopsis

(i) To follow up discussion on ways to improve dialogue between state authorities and the media in Azerbaijan

(ii) To discuss and agree on ways to improve media professionalism in the coverage of the November 2005 Parliamentary elections. 

(i) Memorandum of Understanding on dialogue between state authorities the and media agreed between the participants.

(ii) Code of Conduct for Azerbaijani media during election campaigns agreed by the participants. 

The Code of Conduct received significant attention and follow-up in the run-up to the Parliamentary elections. This attention triggered signatories to the Code and considerable respect for, and application of, the Code by the majority of the media in Azerbaijan.

As a follow up measure, a training seminar on media professionalism with particular regard to the practical application and understanding of the Code was organised in Ganjlik on 8 and 9 October 2005, prior to the elections (see CEAD 13138).
