Activity Synopsis |
|
Objective(s): |
To examine, discuss and agree upon a draft code of conduct for Albanian media during election campaigns.
To present and exchange experiences and best practice concerning media professionalism, with particular reference to the role of regulatory authorities and the challenges facing public service broadcasters, in the light of Council of Europe standards and the experience of other countries.
|
Output/Results: |
A code of conduct for Albanian media during election campaigns was agreed by the participants in time for it to be used/respected during the official campaign period up until the 3 July 2005 Parliamentary elections in Albania.
The Albanian TV channel, TV Koha, reported that President Moisiu considered the code to be a very good initiative and asked media professionals to respect it in the run up to the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.
Excellent cooperation in the organisation of the event by the Council of Europe Secretariat in Albania, the Albanian Media Rights Institute, OSCE and the Central Elections Commission of Albania.
|
Conclusions/Follow Up: |
Subject to available financing, it would be useful to organise a series of training seminars on media professionalism in the regions of Albania. This would be a logical and necessary next step to promote and complement the agreement on the code of conduct. |
