Activity Synopsis

 
Objective(s):

The aims of the round table were to:

- present the general overview of the current state of the Law of Ukraine amending the Law on Information in Ukraine with the presence of the different organisations and institutions in Ukraine concerned by this draft project;

- present and discuss the analysis of the draft project of the Law on Information prepared by two experts: Helene Darbishire and David Goldberg;

- assist the Ukrainian authorities to implement the European standards into the draft project of the Law on Information.
 

Output/Results:

- Debates: the meeting was attended by a large representation of the Ministry of Justice which at this stage was in charge of the draft project and also by a large representation of different institutions, NGOs, professional associations concerned by the draft project. The discussions were very active and fruitful, the Ministry of Justice promised to implement all important recommendations made by the CoE experts and suggested by the Ukrainian side.

- Presentation of the analysis by David Goldberg and his participation at the discussion was indeed very good and interesting; the expert was very good and understood the situation in Ukraine.

- Media coverage: information about the round table was published on the Information Office of the CoE in Kiev and also on the web of the main internet newspaper. 

Conclusions/Follow Up:

- All declarations/decisions taken: Ministry of Justice of Ukraine promised to implement the most important recommendations made by the CoE experts and also the majority of the suggestions made by the Ukrainian participants.

- Planned follow-up activities: the CoE expert proposed to be involved in a process of the work on the project draft at Verchovna Rada.
