Activity Synopsis

 
Objective(s):

1) Following the application of the Convention in States Party
2) Preparing the ground for the revision of the Convention 

Output/Results:

Objective no. 1: The Standing Committee provided some guidance in respect of the application and interpretation of the Convention. It received one request for interpretation of the Convention and exchanged ideas and opinions on it. As a result, the Secretariat has been asked to draft an opinion to be examined and adopted at the 40th meeting.

Objective no. 2: The Standing Committee formulated further ideas and opinions concerning the protection of minors and respect for human dignity. As a result, the discussion document concerning the protection of minors and respect for human dignity will be improved for the 40th meeting.

The Standing Committee adopted a final position on questions concerning the scope of the Convention, jurisdiction, freedom of reception and retransmission is adopted. As a result, the final document on questions concerning the scope of the Convention, jurisdiction, freedom of reception and retransmission will provide a basis for the draft revised Convention.

The Standing Committee formulated opinions and ideas on the document concerning the right to information and cultural objectives. As a result, the discussion document on the right to information and cultural objectives will be improved for the 40th meeting.

 

Conclusions/Follow Up:

In its 40th meeting (10-11 April 2006), the Standing Committee will resume the examination of the issues quoted under Objectives nos. 1 and 2 above.
