Activity Synopsis |
|
Objective(s): |
This seminar was mainly meant for senior TV professionals (newsroom managers, editors in chief and editors). The participants came from Stability Pact countries as well as from Western Europe. The training had several objectives: to stimulate an exchange of information and experiences, to enable participants to analyse examples of best practice and to evaluate the consequences linked to the use of new technologies, namely in the field of management. These aims were fully achieved. |
Output/Results: |
The discussions during the first day showed that the same issues arise everywhere, such as motivation of the teams, organisation within the newsroom and the need to better redefine the role of the manager within a newsroom. The second day was devoted to filming exercises. Around a common theme and in small teams, the trainees produced a report built solely from pictures and ambient sound. The aim was to prove that pertinent information, understandable by everyone, could be held in the absence of any commentary.
Later in the seminar, the participants visited the Audiovisual Unit of the European Parliament. On 19 November for a second consecutive year, the journalists were invited to the European Court of Human Rights. The session started with a presentation by Mr. Christophe Poirel, Head of the Media Division of the Council of Europe, followed by a case-study presented by two Croatian lawyers. This approach, an initiative of the Council of Europe, was much appreciated by the trainees and we plan to use it in 2005.

Conclusions/Follow Up: |
Everyone agreed that the 2004 seminar had been very successful and well organised.
Considering the positive feedback obtained from the participants (score 4.30/5 points), CIRCOM Regional plans to organise again this seminar in November 2005, provided that financial support is available.
