Cultural identities, shared values and European citizenship
Workshop on ''Marseilles, door to Europe and the Mediterranean - heritage interpretations'' |
Description: |
This is the first workshop in a series around multi-cultural cities - crossroads of civilisations. It will bring together about 30 specialists. This activity takes as its starting point the assumption that a number of conflicts and tensions between population groups in Europe result from interpretations of the past which involve misunderstandings or inadequate knowledge of others' cultural traditions. The workshop should put forward ideas for a ground-breaking understanding of the heritage that links the successive layers of the past and fosters a common sense of belonging and of cultural ownership for the present day. It should also create impetus around regional cultural resources. The Marseilles workshop will provide a model for other workshops to be organised in 2007.
