Title: |
Living Library - Don't judge a book by its cover - SZIGET MUSICFESTIVAL 2006
Assistance to national organisers of Living Libraries in member states |
Description: |
The participation of the Council of Europe youth sector in large public events for young people gives a unique opportunity to spread the message of the organisation's core values, in particular of human rights, youth participation and intercultural learning to a wider public.
The Living Library is an innovative methodology aiming to raise awareness and enable constructive dialogue about the prejudices which frequently lead to discrimination against individuals or groups of people. The Living Library works exactly like a normal library, with one difference: the Book in the Living Library are people representing groups frequently confronted with prejudices and stereotypes.
The methodology was promoted in a manual to organisers of Living Libraries in member states. Following the publication and the success of previous events, the Directorate of Youth and Sport was requested to provide assistance in the preparation and implementation of Living Libraries, in particular also in the framework of the campaign ''all different - all equal''. Workshops were offered to member of National Campaign Committees and to participants in symposia and training courses.
