Activity Synopsis

This three-day training seminar aimed to present to editors and newsroom manager(s) key tools and methods to strengthen news room management and to maximize newsroom resources. The seminar included discussions on professional journalistic behavior in the public interest in order to support a healthy democracy.

 

A great part of the seminar was dedicated to Newscast analyses, newscast formatting and editorial policy. There were very lively discussions on content, editorial approach, sources of news etc…Comparisons between different programmes raised a lot of interest. Due to the interest of the participants for these topics, it was decided to spend less time on the subject of the third day (Managing the News Room Employees) in favour of practical exercises on the subjects discussed during the two previous days. This was also decided because the majority of the participants were not decision-makers.

In their evaluation forms which they filled in after the seminar, the participants stated that they were very satisfied with the seminar and that there was a great need for such training in the Kaliningrad region. Some participants stressed the fact that they were glad to meet their colleagues and exchange experiences. Our partner in Kaliningrad stated that a very positive aspect of such activities is to create a professional environment where professional norms, standards and approaches are formed, and that this “Newsroom management” seminar provided an opportunity to create such an environment.
