Activity Synopsis

During the first meeting of the Drafting Group on the Revision of the European Convention on transfrontier television (ECTT), the group was invited to reach an agreement on the development of a draft revision of the ECTT considering (i) the present status in the legislative process of a proposal for an EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive, (ii) the preliminary draft amendments to the convention in the light of the comments made by the Standing Committee on Transfrontier Television (T-TT) during their 41st meeting, (iii) the discussion document on issues concerning the role of the Standing Committee in the light of comments received by the delegates of the T-TT since the 41st meeting . 

The drafting Group reached an agreement on the elements listed above and instructed the Secretariat to prepare a revised draft based on the discussions held during the meeting. 

The revised draft will be made available on a restricted website as from early May so as to allow the members of the Group to propose further amendments, taking into account further decisions by the EU-Council on the text of the EU Directive (expected as from 24 May 2007). The draft text as amended by the Group will be made available to all delegations of the T-TT as from 4 June so as to gather their comments in preparation of the second meeting of the Group on 21 and 22 June 2007. 

Delegations of the T-TT chosen to take part in the drafting group, including representatives of Austria, France, Germany, Poland (abs.),Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
