Title: Making A Difference: Young People Participating to Change their World  
Description: The theme for One World Week 2005 is 'Young People Participating to Change their World'. The National Youth Development Education Programme has produced an activity pack for youth workers called 'Making a Difference - Young Peo[ple Participating to Change their World'. The pack explores the issue of youth participation locally and globally. This pack contains a range of activities to help youth workers explore the them with young people. As one of Ireland's activities for the Year Citizenship2005.ie produced a guide for teachers to go along with the pack. The guide serves to ensure that this resource is relevant of of significant value to the formal and non-formal youth education sectors.

Title: 'Active citizenship and literacy' National Adult Literacy Awareness Week  
Description: 26 - 30 September 2005. 'Active citizenship and literacy' is this year's theme for National Adult Literacy Awareness Week (NALAW). The awareness campaign will focus on organisations that facilitate active citizenship such as information givers, statutory organisations and community and voluntary groups . The intention is to assist them to deal more effectively and sensitively with the 500,000 adults (OECD 1997) who have literacy difficulties . This campaign will also examine how literacy can be a barrier to understanding and fully participating in all facets of society .

The Year in Ireland 'Citizenship2005.ie' supported the Awareness Week and also co-edited and co-funded a publication launched during this week entitled 'A Plain English Guide to Citizenship Terms'. It is planned to further develop this guide before the official end of the Year in Ireland in March 2006.

Title: Young Citizen Award from the President of Ireland for the European Year of Citizenship through Education 
Description: This is a recognition award for work being done in the area of Citizenship education projects and initiatives. It is hoped that recognition will encourage young people to further develop a sustained interest in active citizenship. This once-off award scheme will be carried out between September and December 2005. A formal award ceremony will take place in Áras an Uachtaráin with President McAleese in March, 2006.
The award scheme was launched as part of 2005 European Year of Citizenship through Education. The scheme is aimed at young people aged 12-25 who are involved in their local communities through active citizenship projects, such as environmental work, caring for people with special needs or affirming diversity. The Young Citizen Award is organised in conjunction with Citizenship2005.ie, the Department of Education & Science and Development Co-operation Ireland. It will be supported by County and City Development Boards who will oversee the local co-ordination and assessment of applications.

Title: AONTAS 'Citizen Learner'  
Description: The Irish National Association of Adult Education - held a two-day 'Citizen Learner' conference in May, to mark the European Year of Citizenship Through Education.The aim of the conference was to contribute to the development of thinking on the role of lifelong learning in developing active citizenship and civil society. The conference was officially opened by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese who spoke of the importance of citizenship through Education.
'Citizenship2005.ie' funded the production of a DVD resource recording the conference which will serve as a usual resource for exploring the concept of citizenship.
