| Title: | EDC Action Days |
| Description: | The EDC Action Days (known before as Civic Action Days) are an annual event in Austria. On the occasion of the European Year of Citizenship through Education a first step has been made towards implementing the initiative of annual EDC Action Days (known before as Civic Action Days) on a Europe-wide level. For the upcoming years the aim is that more countries start holding such EDC Action Days annually in spring – around May 5 (the day the Council of Europe was officially founded). Germany held it's first EDC Action Days in May 2005.

| Description: | Information campaigns, activities and events related to monthly topics take place during the Year at different levels. The monthly topics (learning and living democracy, minorities, gender, the political book, commemorating and celebrating, people in movement, peace education, constitution, tolerance and human rights and the European dimension) relate to different aspects of active citizenship and democracy education: Information on the topics is available on the Austrian web site for the Year. Schools, educational institutions, museums, NGO's and local communities are encouraged to organise events, exhibitions and workshops during the whole Year. |

| Description: | In Austria the ''EYCE'' coincides with a number of anniversaries commemorating important events of the country's democratic and political development, such as the 60th anniversary of Austria's liberation and end of World War II, 50th anniversary of the Austrian State Treaty and Austrian independence, of Austria's membership in the United nations and of public-service television and the 10th anniversary of EU-membership.
